The AFC West Designated Driver Challenge is a competition between NFL rivals to encourage football fans to use or be the designated driver. Rival teams show their commitment to responsibility by inviting their fans to pledge to be designated drivers. The team with the most fans making the designated driver pledge at the conclusion of the program will receive a special trophy at a ceremony held in early January. The first Designated Driver Challenge took place during the 2010 NFL season between the Denver Broncos and San Diego Chargers. The AFC West Designated Driver Challenge expands upon that successful program by including the Kansas City Chiefs and Oakland Raiders in the competition for the 2011 season. For every fan who makes the pledge to be a designated driver at the stadium, during regular season home games, that team will score a touchdown and earn six points. Teams can earn an extra point for each fan who “likes” the Designated Driver Challenge posts on the teams' Facebook pages. To qualify, designated drivers must:
